I started read Ulysses again this month. To see if I get anymore out of it this time, having read a bit about it. Last time I read it, it took a long time. I'm a slow reader and don't usually read long books. I read it as fragments over a period of time, reading other books between 'episodes'. I'm going to try and read it quicker this time. When I read it before, I was mostly unaware of the meanings behind it. I knew there where symbols, etc. but didn't know much about them. I'm no expert now, but I know a little more about it. Even so, I mostly like it for the poetry of the language and the observations of human nature. People say it's a difficult book but I don't find it hard at all. I'm dyslexic, so it can't be because it's hard to read. I imagine it's because there's not much plot or something. I like stories that don't have much plot and are either 'stream of conscious', or have a hallucinatory, dream-like quality.

Yeah the poetry of the language and the humanist side of it are the best and also the first things I got out of it and what brings me back to it. It helps that everyone in it is very ordinary, which is what makes all the rest of the whizz bang magic work for me. Happy NYE pal also!
